It's everything in the world around you that is fodder for story. It is everything that, once identified and put into place, becomes story. It’s like all the food in gardens and groceries when you’re thinking about making a meal: it’s all the stuff that you could use to make that meal, and to make it wonderful.
It's ideas, images, artifacts, and experiences. It's hopes, fears, dreams, and philosophies. It's stuff that you can hold in your hands, and stuff that you hold in your heart. It's anything that is part of your lived and observed experience, in any space or context, that might become part of a story.
Well, first you have to look for it. Keep your eyes open -- and your mind, and your heart. What are the things around you -- the ideas, the feelings, the experiences, the stuff -- that can be pulled together into story? What happens if you pay attention to all of that, start actively noticing it all?
Once you start paying attention, everything changes. Story comes to life.
